2016 Tournament Recap

A new champion is crowned at the 8th Annual CBA Krupnik Cup.

The 2016 Tournament saw 15 hungry bocce competitors attempt to write their name into the history books. Three previous champions are in the field looking to build on their legacies, and Big Al Korczynski is back again trying shake the mantle of being the "Best Player to Never Win". The Neilson Cottage was, once again, in perfect condition to host the C.B.A.'s premier bocce event. The No Jump court was cleared of acorns, Amy's mound was freshly groomed and the Plinko Trail had received a new coat of gravel in spring. Excitement was in the air as the players took to the field.

Pool Play

The tournament was divided into 4 pools for 2016. Seedings were done by popular vote during the Opening Ceremonies. There were 3 pools of 4, and 1 of 3, the top 2 finishers from each pool advanced to the playoffs. Pool A was won by Syed with Joti in second. Pool B was won by Kate with Amy in second. Pool C was won by Ry with Ned in Second. Pool D was won by Jer with Hoss in second. In a shocking turn of events, Big Al Korczynski went winless in pool play and did not make the playoff.

A New Champion is Crowned

The quarter finals were uneventful as each match was won by at least 5. Syed advanced to meet Hoss in one semi, while Kate moved on to battle Jer in the other. Jer versus Kate proved an entertaining matchup as the Peanut Gallery was out in support of the only remaining girl in the field, but in the end Jer's experience led him to his first final since '09. The Hoss/Syed matchup featured two previous winners of the Cup but was a disappointing match for Syed as he fell 12-7 to H-O Dub.

In the final match Jer left little doubt who was the superior player on this weekend pulling away late to a dominating 21-14 victory as he celebrated his first ever Krupnik Cup.
